Crafting Change: How Structured Programming Is Strengthening Community Ties

At CCI, we believe transformation happens when individuals are given structure, purpose, and the opportunity to contribute something meaningful.

That belief is on display at the Elkhart County Jail, where participants in Moral Reconation Therapy- MRT® are crocheting thousands of winter hats for local nonprofits and families in need.

Through this volunteer initiative, men in the program learn more than a craft. They mentor one another, complete structured steps within the MRT framework, and build a positive sense of self through accountability and service. Last year alone, more than 2,200 hats were donated across the community.

Each hat carries more than warmth. It represents growth, responsibility, and the power of evidence-based programming to reduce recidivism while restoring dignity.

A moment of silence for the addict who will pick up for the very first time tonight, not knowing what they are getting themselves into, and for the addict who will pick up for the very last time and never wake up. The relapse & overdose rate has increased by 30% since March 2020. Mental health issues related to the pandemic are especially hard for people with depression and anxiety.
