Trainings by Type

CCI conducts MRT training℠ worldwide. Our four-day, 32-hour initial course covers MRT. We also provide training in Advanced MRT, Domestic Violence-MRT and Trauma Focused-MRT. In order to facilitate and purchase some of the MRT workbooks, completion of MRT training is required. CEU hours are available for all MRT trainings.

DESCRIPTION OF EACH TYPE OF TRAINING

MRT FACILITATOR TRAINING:
On-site training consists of four days of instruction (approximately 32 hours) to learn the MRT curriculum and the use of MRT with “treatment resistant” clients.

  • Intensive training that uses lectures, discussions, and experiential exercises to explore the dynamics and basic personality traits of clients
  • Presentation of the outcome research on MRT effectiveness
  • Demonstration and explanation of the MRT method (primary characteristics, evolution, and application) as a cognitive-behavioral treatment

Up to four hours of additional “homework” further prepares trainees to facilitate MRT group counseling. During the training, each facilitator receives a copy of the following:

  • The MRT workbook
  • MRT Facilitators Handbook (contains information on the group process, specific objective criteria, and guidelines for all exercises and tasks in MRT, as well as specific “how to” instructions)
  • Understanding and Treating Antisocial Personality Disorder
  • Reprints of 10 journal articles on outcome data on MRT programs
  • Effective Counseling Approaches (contains a description of cognitive behavioral approaches, cognitive restructuring, and cognitive skills programs)
  • 1 CD with two exercises: 5-Minute Stress Manager and Imaginary Future (used to train facilitators how to get clients to set appropriate long-term goals)

ADVANCED MRT:

Advanced MRT is a two-day, 16-hour practical, hands-on workshop that assists participants to enhance their basic group facilitation skills and effectively evaluate and critique the MRT group process.  All participants attending either of these trainings receive a certificate of attendance/completion and 1.6 CEUs are available from Louisiana State University at Shreveport.

Participants receive a copy of The Advanced MRT Counselors Handbook, How to Escape Your Prison, sample exercises, and quality assurance. Participants have the opportunity to dialogue with the MRT trainers as well as other MRT practitioners. Participants are encouraged to bring their own examples, problems, and research questions to be reviewed in detail during training.

One-Day MRT Basic REVIEW Training:

This 8-hour practical, hands-on workshop assists facilitators experienced with running MRT groups and previously certified in MRT.  Attendees are encouraged to provide their own example problems and research questions to be reviewed during training while participating in structured cognitive-behavioral exercises.

One-Day Breaking the Chains of Trauma Training:

This workshop enhances the skills of MRT-certified facilitators.

The trauma-focused MRT training is an optional one-day, 6.5-hour intensive lecture, discussion, and hands-on workshop to explore the dynamics of trauma.

The key issues identified by SAMHSA’s Trauma-Informed Treatment Protocol are explained, and assessment instruments are identified. During this training, each person receives a copy of:

  • Breaking the Chains of Trauma Workbook – Male Version
  • Breaking the Chains of Trauma Workbook – Female Version
  • Breaking the Chains of Trauma Program Journal
  • Breaking the Chains of Trauma Facilitator’s Guide

Two-Day Breaking the Chains of Trauma Training:

This training is designed to fully train attendees to implement and operate the MRT trauma program in ongoing or closed-ended group formats. An overview of trauma-related statistics, outcomes, and key issues involved with SAMHSA’s Trauma-Informed Treatment Protocol are explained.  This seminar is two days (16 hours) of intensive lectures, discussions, and hands-on workshops exploring the dynamics of trauma. During this training, each person receives a copy of the following:

  • Breaking the Chains of Trauma Workbook – Male Version
  • Breaking the Chains of Trauma Workbook – Female Version
  • Breaking the Chains of Trauma Program Journal
  • Breaking the Chains of Trauma Facilitator’s Guide

Two-Day Veterans Trauma (PTSD) Training:

This “Battling Shadows” Training is conducted over two consecutive days. There is a minimum requirement of 10 participants in order to conduct the training however we do not have a maximum limit. Over the years in conducting training and workshops, we have found that large groups provide a wide range of people with varying degrees of experience which can improve the learning experience.

Each participant will receive 13 hours of training. During the training, each new facilitator will receive:

  • Battling Shadows (the Veteran’s Trauma workbook)
  • Battling Facilitators’ Guide (contains information on the group process, specific objective criteria and guidelines for all exercises and tasks in Battling Shadows, and specific “how to” instructions)
  • Crisis Intervention Strategies (contains reproducible crisis intervention forms and tests for anxiety and depression)

MRT Domestic Violence Training:

CCI’s Moral Reconation Therapy® – MRT-based domestic violence curriculum is used with many batterers programs as the primary treatment method.

All MRT domestic violence facilitators must complete our 4 day, 32 hour domestic violence MRT training.

During the training, each new facilitator will receive a copy of the following:

  • Bringing Peace to Relationships (MRT workbook)
  • MRT for DV Counselors’ Handbook (contains information on the group process, specific objective criteria and guidelines for all exercises and tasks in MRT for DV, and specific “how to” instructions)
  • A variety of MRT for DV client exercises and DV articles
  • Effective Counseling Approaches for Chemical Abusers and Offenders
  • Understanding & Treating Antisocial Personality Disorder: Criminals, Chemical Abusers & Batterers (contains information on treating the most resistant of clients)
  • Self Preservation: Resources & Hints for Crime Victims (a victim’s resource book using the principles and concepts of MRT)
  • Spiritual Reflections
  • Crisis Intervention
  • 5 Minute Stress Manager and Imaginary Time Out CD
